Xiaomi’s Poco F3 was a fantastic balance of specifications and price that impressed primarily thanks to its performance and camera quality. Now, rumours are already in full flow that the Chinese company is prepping its successor. Here’s all we know so far about the Xiaomi Poco F4.
When will the Xiaomi Poco F4 be released?
We don’t have a confirmed release date at the time of writing, but we have seen some reports that suggest an approximate time frame for the F4’s arrival.
Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station posted on Weibo, claiming that Xiaomi is gearing up to release the Redmi K50 range in February 2022. Why does this matter? Well, the Redmi K40 served as the basis for the Poco F3 – with the latter serving as the K40 for global audiences.
As such, if the Redmi K50 arrives in February 2022, then the Poco F4 likely won’t be far behind, in mainland Europe, the UK, India and other territories. This would be roughly in line with the launch strategy of its predecessor, as the Poco F3 was announced in March 2021 and released in the middle of April.
How much will the Xiaomi Poco F4 cost?
There are no strong rumours on the potential price of the Poco F4, so we look to the previous models as a rough guide.
Xiaomi Poco F3 (6GB RAM, 128GB) – £329/€349 (US$399)
Xiaomi Poco F3 (8GB RAM, 256GB) – £349/€399 (US$459)
Xiaomi Poco F2 – wasn’t released
Xiaomi Poco F1 (6GB RAM, 64GB) – £230/€260 (US$300)
Xiaomi Poco F1 (8GB RAM, 256GB) – £320/€375 (US$415)
If we take the top tier 8GB RAM models with 256GB of storage as our waypoints, then it looks likely that you’ll be paying between 350 to 450 of your local currency for the Poco F4. Of course, the current global shortage in silicon is driving prices up, as are the disruptions to the supply chain caused by the pandemic. So, we could see slightly higher pricing when the Poco F4 actually arrives.
What features will the Xiaomi Poco F4 offer?
As with all details about the Poco F4, there’s nothing coming from Xiaomi directly at present but as we mentioned earlier, there have been a few reports linking it to the upcoming release of the Redmi K50 range.
91 Mobiles ventures that there will be four models in the K50 line: consisting of the standard K50, K50 Gaming Edition, K50 Pro and K50 Pro+. If these translate to Poco F4 variants, then we’re expecting the standard F4 to sport the same specs as the Redmi K50 and the Poco F4 GT (intended for India) to ape the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition’s spec sheet. We don’t know if Xiaomi plans to bring the K50 Pro and Pro+ versions to Poco F4 treatment, however.
Powering the K50/Poco F4 will be a MediaTek Dimensity 7000 series processor, which should serve as a solid mid-range chip, while the K50 Gaming Edition/Poco F4 GT will get the higher performance 4nm Dimensity 9000. The K50 Pro and Pro+ are thought to be getting, respectively, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 and the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
GSM Arena also reports that the camera on the Poco F4 GT will likely be a 64Mp sensor, while the battery will sport a 5000mAh capacity. Across the range, it’s expected that there will be 100W fast charging and IP68-certified water resistance.
If Xiaomi keeps to the same basic chassis and layout of Poco F3 (and many of the phones coming out of China at the moment) then we’d expect the display to be along the lines of a 6.67in Full HD+ AMOLED panel, with the possible inclusion of an under-display fingerprint sensor.
The Poco F3 had a triple camera array on its back; comprised of 48Mp main, 8Mp ultrawide and 5Mp macro lens; so we wouldn’t be surprised to see this endure on the Poco F4, albeit with probable spec bumps to the sensors at play.
Other than that, there’s not much else we know so far about how the Poco F4 will be equipped. This hasn’t stopped designers, like HoilNDI, making up impressive mock images of the upcoming devices, however; basing the renders on the available rumours and some educated guesses.
Here’s HoilNDI’s concept video, giving us a look at what the Redmi K50/Poco F4 may look like:
As a reminder of what it would be replacing, and to give you an idea of what the full spec sheet might look like, here’s how the Poco F3 was equipped:
