The Oppo Find X5 may have only arrived in our office in April 2022, but tech never stands still and the Chinese company is already hard at work on its successor. Here’s all we know so far about the Oppo Find X6 series.
When will the Oppo Find X6 be released?
There’s no confirmed date of when we’ll see the Find X6 yet. Of course, we can use the previous models to give us some idea of when that might be. Here’s how they lined up:
Oppo Find X5 – March 2022Oppo Find X3 – March 2021
As you can see from the pattern above, March is the slot Oppo uses to release new generations of the Find X models, so it seems very likely indeed that the Oppo Find X6 will arrive in March 2023.
You may be wondering what happened to the Find X4 – well the number 4 is deemed unlucky in China, where Oppo is based, so the choice was made to simply skip over it and go straight to the X5 range instead.
Customers in the US won’t be able to buy the Oppo Find X6 range directly, as the continued government sanctions on Chinese companies prevents them from selling in the region, so if you really want one you’ll need to import it from an international site.
How much will the Oppo Find X6 cost?
Again, there’s no confirmed pricing on the Find X6 range, so we need to look back at the models that have come before to give us a clue. For ease, we’re breaking them down based by model. First there’s the regular model:
Oppo Find X5 – £749/€999Oppo Find X3 – CNY 4,499 (China only)
Then we get the Pro:
Then the more affordable Lite:
And finally the Neo, though we never actually got a Find X5 Neo, so that line may well be done.
We don’t expect Oppo to stray too far from the pricing of the Find X5 range, which is already competing directly with the likes of Samsung and Xiaomi, though if current inflation trends continue the price may well rise a little.
What specs and features will we see in the Oppo Find X6?
As the projected launch of the Oppo Find X6 is still quite distant, there’s no spec leaks we’ve seen so far. It could be that Oppo uses a tried and tested formula of moving some of the key components from the Find X5 Pro to the standard Find X6, as it did with the previous generation. This could mean that the Find X6 gets an upgrade from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 in the Find X5 to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that came in the Find X5 Pro.
Presumably the Find X6 Pro will move up to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Cameras on the Find X5 range were very impressive, so there’s no need to reinvent the wheel there. In fact, in our reviews of both the standard and Pro devices we found both to be excellent devices, so Oppo only needs to refine a few things to keep this emerging range near the top of the charts for 2023. Here’s what we’d like to see:
Oppo Find X6: Waterproofing
While the Pro model comes with an IP68 waterproof and dust protection rating, the standard Find X5 doesn’t. This isn’t ideal for a high-end mid-ranger or lower-end flagship in 2022, let alone 2023. Therefore, we’d very much like to see this added to the Find X6.
Periscope camera
If Oppo is to change the Find X6 camera setup at all, the key move would be to add a periscopic camera into the Pro model. Many rivals at the price feature impressive zoom lenses now, and in fact Oppo was one of the companies that pioneered the tech years ago. Oppo focussed on other lenses in the Find X5 series, but maybe it’s time to revisit the telephoto.
Oppo Find X6 Pro: Lighter weight
The Find X5 Pro is a fantastic device, with one main gripe from us – the weight. At 218g it’s something of a beast. Granted, it’s not as heavy as the anvil that is the iPhone 13 Pro Max (240g), but we’d definitely like to see the Find X6 Pro has been to the gym and shed a few of those grams.
