OnePlus has been busy creating a variety of phones in 2022, with handsets available for most people’s budgets. To continue this trend, the company is thought to be close to releasing a successor to its popular OnePlus Nord N10 5G that first made its debut back in November 2020.
We’ve gathered together all the latest news and rumours about the upcoming device, so you’ll know what to expect when it arrives. Here’s our guide to the OnePlus Nord N20 5G.
When will the OnePlus Nord N20 be released?
There’s no official word from OnePlus yet of when we should expect the Nord N20. Previously, there were plenty of rumours pointing at a February release, but obviously that never materialised.
Instead, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G was announced, with its worldwide introduction taking place on 11 March 2022, and the OnePlus 10 Pro is set to follow later the same month.
This has led several rumours sites to revise their prognostications, with the common consensus now seeming to be that OnePlus will reveal the Nord N20 5G on 11 May 2022. How realistic this is, we don’t know. So, for the time being, we’ll keep digging for more details until we can uncover the actual date.
One clue might be that another anticipated device, the OnePlus Nord 2T, is rumoured to be landing in the April/May timeframe. Could it be that OnePlus will take the opportunity to release both new models at once?
How much will the OnePlus Nord N20 5G cost?
Again, we don’t have much to go on in terms of pricing. The only real clue is the previous Nord N10 5G model, which launched at £329/€349/$299. Over its lifetime, those figures have been reduced by OnePlus, but it’s quite possible that the new Nord N20 5G will start with similar price tags.
To put it in context, here’s how the other affordable OnePlus devices line-up:
OnePlus Nord N100: £179/€199/$179.99 (approx ₹18,165)
OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G: £299/€349/₹24,999 (approx $395)
OnePlus Nord 2 5G: £399/€499/₹29,999 (approx $525)
What specs and features will we see in the OnePlus Nord N20 5G?
With OnePlus remaining silent on the Nord N20 5G, there’s on confirmed details on the specs and features, but we have seen plenty of leaks that give us a good idea of what the phone may contain.
A partnership that’s been useful in recent months is that of OnLeaks and 91Mobiles, which have teamed up to reveal several unreleased device specs. The two have been at it again recently, with a quite comprehensive breakdown of what components will appear in the Nord N20 5G.
Design
From the leaked renders we’ve seen, supplied by OnLeaks and 91Mobiles, the Nord N20 5G will feature a square-edged design, similar to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G that also launched recently. Both, of course, take something of this aesthetic from the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 range that reintroduced the sharper lines that now seem to be back in vogue.
91Mobiles reports the dimensions to be roughly 158.8mm x 73.1mm x 7.7mm, making it quite a compact but tall device. There’s a single speaker on the bottom edge, which is also home to the USB-C charging port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. As with some other recent OnePlus devices, the classic slider button for muting the sound is no-more. Sad.
Processor
Several reports have stated that the OnePlus Nord N20 5G will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695. This is the same lower mid-range chip employed by recent handsets such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, Realme 9 Pro, Vivo T1 5G, Moto G71 and Poco X4 Pro.
Most reports also state that the processor will be assisted by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage, the latter of which can be extended by a further 512GB via a microSD card.
Display
Another widely reported element is the display, which is expected to be a 6.43in AMOLED panel running at a 1080 x 2400 resolution with 409ppi. A punch-hole aperture will accommodate the 16Mp front-facing camera, while there’s also the inclusion of an under-display fingerprint sensor.
Cameras
Three cameras are thought to be coming with the Nord N20 5G, consisting of a 48Mp main shooter, aided by 2Mp macro and 2Mp mono/depth lenses. This is pretty standard fare for 2022, although like with most of its contemporaries, this is really one camera with a couple of additional sensors rather than a true triple-camera array.
Connectivity and battery
Aside from the tentpole features, you should also find 5G support, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and dual-SIM capabilities in the Nord N20 5G. A 4,500mAh battery will keep everything powered, which can be replenished quickly via the 30w fast-charging support.
Obviously, until OnePlus announces the Nord N20 5G, these specs remain speculative, although the detailed reporting does make us confident that this could well be what you’ll find in the finished product.
Hopefully you won’t have to wait long to find out. In the meantime, be sure to take a look at our guides to the best OnePlus phones and best budget Chinese phones to see what other options are out there.
