Rumours are beginning to emerge that OnePlus could be on the verge of releasing the first T-model for its Nord range of affordable smartphones. Here’s all we know so far about the OnePlus Nord 2T.
When is the OnePlus Nord 2T release date?
There’s no official word from OnePlus about a launch date for the new Nord 2T, but several sites are reporting that an April/May time-frame looks likely. The source of this date is renowned tech tipster OnLeaks who teamed up with Indian tech site 91Mobiles to share details of the new device.
Leaker Yogesh Brar agrees, but is a little more specific, pointing to late April or early May as the likely time frame. That will see the phone launch after the OnePlus 10 Pro, but before the Nord 3, 10R, and 10 Ultra.
The original OnePlus Nord 2 5G made its debut at the end of July 2021, so the April/May slot doesn’t sound too far fetched.
How much will the OnePlus Nord 2T cost?
The current rumours suggest that OnePlus will price the Nord 2T between 30,000 and 40,000 rupees in India. This translates to around £300-£400, €350-€480 and US$400-$530. We’re assuming that there will be a few variants – the OnePlus Nord 2 5G came in these configurations:
6GB RAM + 128GB storage: ₹27,999
8GB RAM + 128GB storage: £399/€399/₹29,999/$529
12GB RAM + 256GB storage: £469/€499/₹34,999/$629
We’d expect a similar price range for the Nord 2T, as it needs to fit into the overall structure of OnePlus phones that also include the new OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G and any potential successor to the OnePlus Nord N10 5G.
What new features will we see in the OnePlus Nord 2T?
Again, OnePlus hasn’t confirmed the Nord 2T yet, but the leaks we’ve seen give quite a lot of detail about what to expect when the new model arrives.
Processor
Rumours suggest it’s very likely that OnePlus will use the new Dimensity 1300 chipset in the Nord 2T. This will be a step up from the Dimensity 1200 in the OnePlus Nord 2 5G, as MediaTek has tweaked the previous design for more power.
It’s also likely that this will be aided by 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 onboard storage. On the software side, OxygenOS 12 will be the order of the day, based on Android 12.
Display
The Nord 2T is reported to have a 6.43in Full HD+ AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2400×1080, as did the model it succeeds. A 90Hz refresh rate will keep things moving along nicely, although it might disappoint potential gamers that it won’t have the 120Hz capabilities of some rival phones.
Cameras
Triple optics are pretty much the standard fare on the rear of most mid-range Android phones these days. So, it’s no great surprise that the Nord 2T is said to feature a 50Mp main shooter, along with 8Mp ultrawide and 2Mp monochrome (presumably for depth) sensors to offer extra photographic options. The front camera will utilise a punch-hole in the display through which the 32Mp sensor can capture images.
This is the same layout as on the OnePlus Nord 2 5G, so expect similar performance and capabilities in the camera department as with the previous model.
Battery & charging
One interesting rumoured feature for the new phone is a 4500mAh battery and support for 80W SuperVooc fast-charging, which is the same speed as on the OnePlus 10 Pro. Not being a flagship, it won’t get the 150W SuperVooc charging that sister company Oppo announced at MWC 2022.
