2023 has already been a huge year for AI. The first month of the year was dominated by ChatGPT, before Microsoft integrated the technology into its Bing search engine and Edge browser soon after.
Access was initially very restricted, with only a small percentage of the people who signed up able to give it a try. But widespread availability soon followed, and now anyone can try out Bing Chat for themselves.
Each Bing Chat user is limited to 15 chats per session and 150 chats in total each day, but that’s plenty to put the AI chatbot through its paces. Here’s how to get started on your desktop PC, laptop, smartphone or tablet.
How to use Bing Chat on Windows or Mac
Of course, Microsoft wants you to use Windows 11 to access Bing Chat. That’s what we’ll be using for the purposes of this tutorial, but it also works on Mac. Just download Edge for Mac to get started, then follow the same steps as below:
Open Microsoft Edge and head to bing.com/chat
From the pop-up that appears, click ‘Sign in to chat’

Enter the email address for the Microsoft account you’d like to use and click ‘Next’. If you don’t have one, click ‘Create one!’ just under the text box and follow the instructions

Enter your password when prompted and click ‘Next’. You’ll be taken back to a similar screen as step 2, just with a message saying ‘Great! You’re on the waiting list’

Check your usual emails for the email address entered and look for one with the subject line ‘You’re in! Welcome to the new Bing!’
Click the ‘Chat now’ button

You’ll now be presented with the Bing Chat homepage. Choose from one of three conversation styles, then ask away!

How to use Bing Chat on Android or iOS
Luckily, Microsoft has also added Bing Chat to the Edge mobile apps. We’re using Android here, but all of the steps below also apply to iOS:
Download Microsoft Edge from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store
Once installed, open the app and sign into your account (or create a new one)
Head to bing.com/chat and tap ‘Sign in to chat’
You should now see a message saying ‘You’re in! Welcome to the new Bing!’. If not, check for an email from Microsoft Bing and click the ‘Chat now’ button
Back in Edge, click ‘Chat now’ button again and start using it. You have the same choice of three conversation styles, and can enter text by using your voice or typing
