As part of Amazon’s bumper event of new product announcements, for those looking to get a new TV, the best was saved until last, the new Fire TV Omni QLED series.
We weren’t expecting new TVs at today’s launch event but that’s exactly what Amazon pulled out of the bag right at the last minute. And the Omni QLED series is a rival to Samsung’s popular The Frame, and in some ways, can do even more.
For starters, the QLED panel should present the best picture quality for Amazon’s own-brand Fire TVs yet with Dolby Vision IQ, HDR 10+ Adaptive and adaptive brightness. The technology, combined with an ambient light sensor, means the TV will automatically adjust the picture based on the conditions of the room it’s in.
The TV is available in either 65- or 75in sizes and has full-array local dimming with 96 separate zones.

There’s also a presence sensor so the Omni QLED will automatically wake up when you enter the room in the morning but is intelligent enough to stay asleep if you get up for a midnight snack.
Samsung’s Art Mode on The Frame has been hugely popular, giving customers a function for the TV when it’s not being used for traditional viewing. In a very similar way, the Omni QLED has an ‘ambient experience’ that can show artwork (1500+ pieces) or your own personal snaps.

Where it goes beyond Samsung’s clever TV is the addition of Alexa, meaning you can ask about paintings being shown or about your own snaps such as when or where they were taken. The TV is also like a huge Echo Show thanks to optimised Alexa widgets.
These can offer all kinds of useful things such as the weather, your family’s daily schedule, news, smart home suggestions, what’s on live TV and more.
The Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED is available to pre-order today in the US and Canada with prices starting at $799.99.
