WandaVision will be the second live-action MCU series to feature on Disney Plus, after The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it looks to be pretty bizarre and full of twists and turns.
If you’re intrigued, we’ve scoured the internet for everything worth knowing about this new series. We also have similar roundups for Loki and Hawkeye, as well as a full guide to all the Marvel content available on Disney Plus right now.
When will WandaVision be released?
All we know so far is that it’s currently scheduled for this year – probably in the last quarter. Of course, seeing as they were likely still in production before all the lockdowns took place, they may not hit this date. We’ll update this article once we know more.
What will WandaVision be about?
Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame
WandaVision is set to take place post Avengers: Endgame – something already interesting as by this point Vision has been destroyed by Thanos as he obtained the last Infinity Stone from him.
From initial descriptions and the trailer, we see both Wanda and Vision in a vintage suburban setting, but apparently not all is as it seems. Writer Jac Schaeffer described the show at D23 as “half classic sitcom and half full MCU spectacular”, and from the footage this seems to be quite dream-like and surreal.
Fans are speculating that this is all taking place in Wanda’s mind, and it’s a version of the story she’s created for herself to cope with losing Vision. Another theory is that this show takes place in another branch of time – similar to how Loki will be set. Now that alternative dimensions have been established in the MCU, this is also entirely possible.
Olsen also told audiences at Comic Con that the show would be very weird, and that we’d discover the reason that Wanda is dubbed the Scarlet Witch.
Who is involved in WandaVision?
If the name wasn’t giveaway enough, both Elizabeth Olson (Wanda Maximoff AKA The Scarlet Witch) and Paul Bettany (Vision) will be reprising their roles for this series.
The supporting cast will also see reprises from Kat Dennings (Darcy Lewis from the Thor films) and Randall Park (Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man and the Wasp). Teyonah Parris will make her Marvel debut playing an adult version of Monica Rambeau, seen as a child in Captain Marvel. Kathryn Hahn will also play a ‘nosy neighbour’, a character which is currently unnamed.
Reliable rumours from Murphy’s Multiverse are currently circulating that Evan Peters has also been added to cast, the actor who played Quicksilver in the X-Men films Days of Future Past, Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. We don’t know yet whether Peters will be reprising his as Quicksilver – which is entirely possible now that Disney owns the X-Men franchise.
The series is created and written by Jac Schaeffer – also the writer for the upcoming MCU film Black Widow. Directing will be done by Matt Shakman, who has previously worked on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Fargo and Game of Thrones.
