Fujifilm’s sub-brand Instax has just announced the Square Link, a new portable printer that uses the popular square format film which is 1.5 times bigger than the Mini Film. The printer will hit shelves in a few weeks’ time on 16 November 2022.
This new printer follows the Mini Link 2, which was released this summer, and the Link Wide, which was launched this time last year. Like its siblings, the Square Link has a refined and portable design, along with a ribbed exterior that gives it a unique look compared to competitors. The last square printer from Instax was the Instax Share SP-3.
There’s a choice of two colours: Ash White and Midnight Green. Plus, there’s now a function button which can be used to quickly re-print the last image printed without having to open the accompanying Instax Square Link app.
AR (augmented reality) Print means that you can add a digital animation, special effect or doodle to an image via the app. Then, the print comes with a QR code, and when a person scans the image, the special effects appear on the phone screen. You can see this new mode in action below:
Also new to this device is Instax Connect, which allows users to send edited images to other devices such as smartphones and tablets.
You also get the traditional Instax editing tools with the accompanying app, with loads of frames, filters, stickers, text and more to jazz up prints. Like the other portable printers in the Link line, the Square link lasts to 100 prints on a single charge, and prints take around 12 seconds to eject and a few minutes to fully develop.
Alongside the new printer, Fujifilm also announced a new Pastel Green colourway for the Instax Mini 11, it’s entry-level instant camera.
The Instax Square Link costs $139.95/£129.99. When it goes on sale, it will be available from Amazon and Fujifilm in the US and UK. You can also check out our charts of the best portable printers and instant cameras.
