Following a reveal in September, Nvidia’s latest and greatest graphics card is due for release in the US, UK and other regions later this week. While there’s usually a mad scramble to find GPUs at launch, Nvidia and online retailers are taking a very different approach this time around, putting RTX 4090 listings live well ahead of launch to give consumers the opportunity to shop around and decide which they want to go for at release.
With that being said, here’s everything you need to know about buying an RTX 4090 this week, from release date and expected release time to all the key retailers offering the next-gen graphics card. To learn more about the new Nvidia cards, take a look at the latest Nvidia RTX 40 Series news.
When will the Nvidia RTX 4090 be released?
The Nvidia RTX 4090 is due to be released on 12 October 2022, as confirmed by Nvidia at the GPU reveal in September. The question is, what time on the 12th should we expect the top-end graphics card to begin appearing at retailers?
While Nvidia has yet to confirm specific timings – likely in a bid to stop scalpers from swooping in to steal stock – we can look back at previous RTX 30 series graphics card launches to gain some insight. Generally speaking, Nvidia favoured a 6am PDT/9am EDT/2pm BST launch, with only a few exceptions to the rule across the RTX 30 Series generation.
With that in mind, it’s likely that the Nvidia RTX 4090 will be released at 6am PDT/9am EDT/2pm BST on 12 October 2022, though we’ll update this section if we get confirmation from Nvidia.
How much will the Nvidia RTX 4090 cost?
The Nvidia RTX 4090 was always going to be an expensive graphics card, sitting comfortably at the top of Nvidia’s GPU stack, but nobody was expecting a price hike from the already-expensive RTX 3090.
As confirmed by the company at the RTX 4090 announcement, the graphics card is set to cost $1599/£1699 – an increase of $100/£300 compared to the RTX 3090.
Of course, that’s only the MSRP set by Nvidia, and while its Founders Edition will likely match the price, third-party manufacturers can further raise pricing depending on the modifications made to Nvidia’s reference design. That’ll likely take it closer to $2000/£2000, especially if stock is relatively low as with the previous generation of GPUs.

Where can I buy the RTX 4090 at launch in the US?
Interestingly, while you can’t yet buy the Nvidia RTX 4090 just yet, retailers have begun to add listings in preparation for the launch this week.
That’s great news for consumers, as it’ll let you shop around for the particular model of GPU you want to buy before the mad scramble at release.
For what it’s worth, Nvidia has reassured us that retailers have worked hard to implement safety features to stop scalping and bulk-buying from bots, but we’ll have to wait and see just how well that works later this week.
