Lenovo Legion is one of the most celebrated gaming brands worldwide, but what if you don’t need one of the company’s high-end laptops? Some Legion devices are available for around the $1,000/£1,000 mark, but few models effectively cater to more casual gamers – until now.

With its new LOQ line, Lenovo is aiming to provide a solution for people who are new to the world of gaming laptops. The $899.99/€1,099 starting price doesn’t get you all the bells and whistles of a high-end machine, but the core features are here, including some impressive performance specs.
Both 15in and 16in models are available with a choice of Intel (up to Core i7-13700H) or AMD (up to Ryzen 7 7840) CPUs, plus discrete GPUs up to Nvidia’s RTX 4060. This is slightly short of the absolute best laptop performance available, but it should be able to run most AAA titles with ease.

It combines with a maximum of 16GB of DDR5 RAM out of the box, but this can be expanded up to 32GB. While not expandable, 512GB or 1TB of SSD storage will be plenty for most people.
You’ll find WQHD (2560×1440) IPS displays in both sizes, alongside the option for a dynamic 165Hz refresh rate. Lenovo claims full coverage over the sRGB color gamut, but only 350 nits of max brightness.
Being at least 25.2mm thick and 2.4kg in weight means neither are particularly portable, but a 60Whr battery means they can be used without being connected to the mains for a while. On RTX 4050 and 4060 models, you’ll find a 230W (as opposed to 170W) adapter in the box, which can supposedly fully charge the devices in 80 minutes.
It’s also worth mentioning ports, which are split between both sides and the back. In addition to the DC power slot, you’re getting one USB-C, four USB-A, HDMI, Ethernet (RJ45), a 3.5mm audio jack and Lenovo’s Novo Hole for easy access to recovery options.

As with almost all 2023 gaming laptops, the LOQ 15 and 16 run Windows 11 – you can choose between Home and Pro versions.
The devices are only available in ‘Storm Grey’, although this tough polymer chassis should make it more robust than your average laptop.
Other features of note include a 1080p webcam with electronic privacy shutter, dual speakers and, of course, a full-size keyboard with RGB lights. The difference on the 16in model is that it’s joined by a separate number pad.
All devices will be released between April and June. Starting prices range from $899.99/€1,099 to $1,149.99/€1,199, but they can be configured to be much higher than this. US and UK pricing is yet to be revealed.
