Xiaomi, as expected, has announced the new Redmi Note 11 series of smartphones, with two of the four models coming to the UK.
The popular Redmi Note range has sold 240 million units worldwide to date and the latest iterations are here for 2022. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 is joined by the Note 11S, Note 11 Pro and Note 11 Pro 5G to form the line-up.
In the UK it’s the regular Note 11 and Note 11 Pro 5G that will go on sale with prices starting at US$179 We do not have UK specific pricing yet and although we’ve been provided global pricing in US dollars, the firm has no plans to release the Redmi Note 11 series in the states.
“Rising to the challenge to bring even stronger specs and features, Redmi Note 11 series again brings powerful upgrades to its camera system, charging speed, display, and SoC—making flagship-level smartphone performance more accessible than before.” said Xiaomi.
Starting with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11, the device looks like it could be a force of nature in the budget phone market. The combination of price and specs is a rare find.
For just $179 (£132 converted) you get a 6.43in AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, it has a 180Hz touch sampling rate and Xiaomi says it can reach a brightness of 1000 nits.
There are no less than five total cameras, although a typical combination of 2Mp macro and depth sensors on the back make up some of that number. Still, a 50Mp main and 8Mp ultra-wide angle sound good.
Internally, the Redmi Note 11 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor and offers 33W fast charging to the 5000mAh battery. The firm says you’ll get from 0-100% in around an hour.
Memory and storage come at up 6- and 128GB respectively with a total of three different SKUs available:
4/64 – $179
4/128 – $199
6/128 – $229
Other specs include stereo speakers, microSD card slot, side fingerprint scanner and IP53 splash-proofing. The semi-gloss frosted design comes in a range of colours including Granite Grey and just about the only thing missing here is 5G support.
Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G
You get that, as the name suggests, on the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G. This model pushes the screen to a larger 6.67in and while it’s still AMOLED and Full HD+, you get a 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling rate. It also goes to a higher 1200 nits of brightness.
At the back, there’s only three cameras with no depth sensor, but the main camera is 108Mp and the phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695. Memory and storage go to 8- and 128GB but we’re talking mid-range prices here compared to the regular Note 11:
6/64 – $329
6/128 – $349
8/128 – $379
Specs like stereo speakers and side mounted fingerprint scanner remain from the Redmi Note 11, of course, but to compete better with rivals in this mid-range price the Note 11 Pro has 67W charging.
This means, according to Xiaomi, you can charge the 5000mAh battery to over half in just 15-minutes and the charger is included in the box.
Though we don’t know where they will go on sale, for those interested, the Note 11S mainly features a 108Mp camera compared to the regular 11 and the Note 11 Pro switches to a MediaTek Helio G96 with 4G support and does have a depth sensor as a fourth rear camera.
All the Redmi Note 11 phones come with MIUI 13, the latest version of Xiaomi’s Android overlay. New features include a side bar of your favourite apps and various performance optimisations including up to 60% faster storage and up to 10% better battery life.
