If you’ve been eagerly waiting for the Nex 5 from Vivo, then you will be disappointed to know that it’s very unlikely that you’ll ever see it arrive. That’s not because it’s been cancelled though, just that the company has rebranded the range.
So, here’s all we know about the phone that continues the Nex lineage: the Vivo X Note.
When will the Vivo X Note be released?
We already know that Vivo will be holding a launch event on 11 April for its new Vivo X Fold foldable smartphone. Some rumours are suggesting that this will also be the time that the company announces the X Note. This has been backed up by promotional posters that have been appearing on Twitter, reportedly originating from Vivo.

We also found the Vivo channel on Weibo promoting the 11 April date, so it looks like we won’t have long to wait.
How much will the Vivo X Note cost?
There’s been no official word from Vivo regarding the pricing of the X Note, so we’ll have to wait until the launch event to get any firm details. We can look back at the older Nex models to see what might be the price on the ticket:
With the X Note being reported by GSM Arena as the new branding for the Nex 5, it could be that the £1,000/$1,000 mark is where we expect the cost of entry to be placed.
What about the X Note specs?
With the potential release date so close, it’s not surprising that we’ve begun to see leaks that look pretty solid regarding the components that could appear in the X Note. Recently we’ve seen several reports that Vivo will use a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 as the brains of the device, with a Vivo device turning up on Geekbench matching the expected configuration of the X Note.
An interesting prospect comes from Indian tech tipster Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings), who posted that the chip would be a custom version with additional features, although he didn’t say what they would be. It seems a little far-fetched, but if Vivo does have an inside track to Qualcomm then that would make the X Note a fascinating device.
Another recent leak, this time from Technology Edge, reports to show the actual device in its finished form.

Accompanying the images are some specs that the site says we’ll see in the X Note. These include the following:
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
12GB RAM
512GB Storage
The 12GB of RAM matches that of the device mentioned in the Geekbench report, and it is certainly the kind of memory allocation we’d expect in a flagship phone. 512GB is also premium territory, which is in keeping with the other specs that have been appearing online.
With a name like Note, you won’t be surprised to see that the display is going to be large. Very large. Multiple sites have been reporting a 7in AMOLED panel that will run at a 2K resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. To power all that real estate, it’s thought that Vivo will use a 5000mAh battery that supports 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
According to MySmartPrice, cameras will be comprised of four lenses, made up of 50Mp main shooter, joined by 48Mp (ultra wide), 12Mp (portrait), and 8Mp periscope camera with 5X optical zoom.
If all these specs prove true, then the Vivo X Note could be a very impressive device. In the meantime, check out our roundups of the best Chinese phones, best phones and best phones coming in 2022.
