The foldables market continues to grow, with several new additions expected this year.
One of the devices we should see very soon is the first offering from Chinese company Vivo, with an official announcement due within days.
Here’s all we know so far about the Vivo X Fold.
When will the Vivo X Fold be released?
Vivo has officially announced that the launch event for its new X Fold will take place on 11 April 2022, confirming the news in a post on the company’s Weibo social media page.
It doesn’t make clear if the device will be made available instantly, or whether the phone will ever launch outside of China, but we’ll know more when the event comes around.
How much will the Vivo X Fold cost?
There’s been no news about the potential cost of the Vivo X Fold, so again we need to wait until the official launch. It’s sure to be expensive though, with most foldables at the higher end of the smartphone scale.
As a rough guide, here’s how some of the other notable devices already on sale are priced:
What features and specs will we see in the Vivo X Fold?
Vivo has posted a promotional video of the X Fold, which gives us a few clues about its design and potential specs. You can see it below, courtesy of Sparrow News.
As you can see, the main element shown on the video, aside from the internal folding panel and likely vegan leather covering, is a quad-camera array on the back. While the promotional material only shows a few arty shots of the device, a leaked image of the box packaging, complete with the specs printed on the back, could (if real) give us a much better picture:

So, if this proves to be accurate, then here’s how the specs will line up on the Vivo X Fold:
8in 2K E5 AMOLED folding display with 120Hz refresh rate and LTPO 3.0
6.53in FHD+ external display with 120Hz refresh rate
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor
Android 12
LPDDR5 RAM (not confirmed how much)
UFS 3.1 storage (not confirmed how much)
Quad camera array: 50Mp GN5 with OIS + 49Mp + 12Mp + 5Mp
Wi-Fi 6
NFC
4,600mAh battery
66W wired charging
50W wireless charging
It seems that Vivo isn’t pulling any punches with its first dabble in foldables, as the specs are top draw in most respects. The only drawback we can see is that the 4,600mAh might bit a little underpowered if it’s required to run that large 8in 2K AMOLED display for extended periods. Otherwise, it’s a powerful compliment of modern tech that could shake things up when it arrives.
Thankfully, we know we won’t need to wait very long to see the Vivo X Fold in all its glory.
