Vivo has been building a decent reputation over the past few years for solid smartphones that don’t cost the Earth.
Now, rumours are beginning to appear regarding what we’ll see when the Vivo V24 makes its way onto the stage, quite possibly within the next few months. Here’s all we know about the upcoming device.
When will the Vivo V24 be released?
Vivo hasn’t confirmed when the V24 will arrive, so we need to look at the previous models in the series, plus the rumours that are starting to appear. Here’s when the last few iterations of the V2-series appeared:
Vivo V23 5G: January 2022
Vivo V21 5G: May 2021
Vivo V20: December 2020
As you can see, there tends to be around six months between releases – note that there was never a V22, with Vivo skipping that number entirely for some reason.
If Vivo follows the pattern above, then we could see the V24 arrive around June or July 2022. This is what we’ve seen reported on sites like 91 Mobiles, although MyGadgetsNews predicts a release date of December 2022. Again, we need to reiterate that nothing has been confirmed at the time of writing, so there’s no clear indication of which report is more accurate.
How much will the Vivo V24 cost?
As with the release date, Vivo has yet to make any announcements about what the new device will cost. But we do have the previous models to use as a guide. Here’s the prices for the last couple of V-series devices:
Vivo V23: €499/₹29,990 (approx. £350/$470)
Vivo V23 Pro: ₹38,990 (around £390/€460/$520)
Vivo V21: £399/€399/₹29,990 (approx. $519)
Vivo has only recently started releasing devices outside of Asia and selected other regions, with Europe getting some models but not others. At the time of writing the Vivo V21 5G has arrived in the UK, but only at the end of 2021, while the V23 5G was only available through mainland Europe.
With this in mind, we don’t really know which territories will see the V24 when it does finally launch. US customers will need to import the phone though, as Vivo is one of many Chinese brands that don’t have representation in America.
What specs and features will we see in the Vivo V24?
This also remains an area of speculation, with a few rumours suggesting how the new model will shape up when it’s released. As a pointer, here’s the specs for the V23 5G, which will probably end up quite similar to the V24:
Android 12 with Funtouch OS 12
6.44in FHD+ AMOLED display, 90Hz, HDR10+
MediaTek Dimensity 920
8/12GB RAM
128/256GB internal storage
64Mp, f/1.9 main camera
8Mp, f/2.2 ultrawide camera
2Mp, f/2.4 macro camera
50Mp, f/2.0 main selfie camera
8Mp, f/2.3 ultrawide selfie camera
Fingerprint scanner (in-display)
Bluetooth 5.2
GPS
NFC
5G
Dual-SIM
Schott Xensation Up display coating
4200mAh non-removable battery
44W charging
Stardust Black or Sunshine Gold
157.2 x 72.4 x 7.4mm
179g
Many of the reports we’ve seen have pointed to a MediaTek Dimensity 900 processor being the silicon of choice for the V24. This seems dubious though, as the Dimensity 920 in the V23 5G is a better chip. Maybe the rumours are picking up on a potential V24 SE or Lite model? MyGadgetNews goes with the MediaTek Dimensity 920, which we think is the more likely selection.
Most rumours suggest that Vivo will use a 6.44in AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate once more, and the same 64Mp+8Mp+2Mp camera configuration that featured in the V23 5G.
The other question is whether we’ll see a V24 Pro. The Pro model was a new addition to the V23 line, so will it return again, and if so what extra upgrades will it offer over the regular V24?
As you can see, there’s no real standout changes that have been reported so far, which suggests that the device may still be a while away.
