If you’re a fan of the covetable countertop appliances but haven’t yet bought a set, this news may sway you. Smeg has launched a new look for its popular retro-style kettle and toaster sets, moving away from the bright colours and shiny finish that characterised its appliances until now.
The KLF03 kettle and TSF01 toaster will be available in three new, matte shades: black, white and champagne.
At £179.95 per appliance, however, they are a bit of an investment.
The stainless steel KLF03 kettle has a 1.7 litre capacity (enough for seven cups) and all the features you’d expect in a good quality kettle: a soft-opening lid, 360-degree swivel base, non-slip feet, a water level indicator and automatic shut-off at 100°C. It’s a good option for hard water areas, with a stainless steel limescale filter you can remove, wash and replace and a concealed element to prevent limescale build-up.
However, there are no options for varying the temperature of the heated water – a feature that proper tea drinkers would enjoy – and that’s something we’d really like to see in a kettle at this price point.
The steel TSF01 toaster has extra wide and deep (36mm) slots that should fit all kinds of bread products, six browning levels, three pre-sets (bagel, defrost, reheat), a light-up dial and a touch-release removable crumb tray.
Again, it’s obviously very pricey for a two-slice toaster.
The new matte items will go on sale from 22 January and you’ll be able to buy them from John Lewis, Harrods, Smeg online and its London shop.
In the meantime, the original KLF03 kettle and the TSF01 toaster are available in a number of colours from £129 each on John Lewis.
