Honor has confirmed that the Honor 70 range of phones will make their debut very soon.
Here’s all we know so far about the Honor 70, 70 Pro, and 70 Pro+.
When will the Honor 70 be released?
On its official Weibo page, Honor has confirmed that its new Honor 70 series will be unveiled on 30 May.
Of course this is just a Chinese launch, and we’re not sure if or when the phones will debut internationally.
How much will the Honor 70 cost?
We don’t have any confirmation on pricing at the moment, although this will obviously change on 30 May. To give ourselves a ball-park figure, here’s how the Honor 60 and 60 Pro lined up:
The Honor 60 comes in three variants:
8GB RAM, 128GB storage = ¥2699 (direct conversion = £320/€375/$425/₹31,725)
8GB RAM, 256GB storage = ¥2999 (direct conversion = £355/€415/$470/₹35,240)
12GB RAM, 256GB storage = ¥3299 (direct conversion = £390/€460/$520/₹38,760)
While the Honor 60 Pro comes in these two:
8GB RAM, 256GB storage = ¥3699 (direct conversion = £435/€510/$580/₹43,460)
12GB RAM, 256GB storage = ¥3999 (direct conversion = £470/€555/$630/₹46,985)
There have been price increases across the industry lately due to the continued disruption to the manufacturing and supply chain, worldwide chip shortage, not to mention how the war in Ukraine is affecting energy prices. So, it could be that the figures listed above get a little bump with the Honor 70 series, although we hope not.
What are the Honor 70 specs?
Although there has been no official word from Honor on most of the specs for the 70 series, there have been some announcements as well as plenty of strong rumours.
What we know for sure is that the cameras across the range will be equipped with Sony’s new IMX800 sensor, as confirmed by the Honor Weibo page.
This is good news for camera fans, as the sensor is the biggest smartphone one that Sony has launched so far, at 1/1.1-inches and 50Mp. Initially it was thought that this would be reserved solely for the Pro+ model, but the announcement from Honor (unless something is being lost in translation) suggests otherwise. The sensor is also thought to be coming in the Huawei P50 Pro+ and Xiaomi 12 Ultra, both of which should launch later this year.
A teaser video released by Honor does confuse the situation slightly, in that you can see the writing ‘AI Matrix Camera 54Mp 1/1.49 1:1.9ASPH’ written on the body. Notebookcheck speculates that this could be a bespoke or new variant of the Sony sensor, and that the image could be of the Pro or Pro Plus device.
The Honor 60 come with a 108Mp f/1.9 (wide), 8Mp f/2.2 (ultrawide) and 2Mp f/2.4 (macro) array of cameras, and the official images we’ve seen from Honor show a triple lens array on the back of the devices, so it could be that we see something similar in the Honor 70 and its siblings (albeit with that 50Mp main shooter). These are all housed in dual circular raised areas on the rear, which seems to be the thing in 2022.
Cameras aside, GSM Arena has reported on potential sightings of the new Honor 70 that appeared on the Chinese certification site 3C. This shows one of the devices (it’s expected that there will be a 70, 70 Pro and 70 Pro+) will sport a 4800mAh battery and support 66W fast-charging. Other than that, the majority of rumours seem confident that the standard 70 will feature an OLED panel (most likely 6.67in as with the Honor 60), Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, 8/12GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage.
The Pro and Pro+ could upgrade the panel to an LTPO OLED, with the Pro sporting a MediaTek Dimensity 8000 processor, while the Pro+ gets a MediaTek Dimensity 9000.
There’s not long to wait now, so be sure to check back to this page once the official launch takes place on 30 May, as we’ll be updating the rumours to match the actual specs that are announced.
