Apple has announced a brand-new colour for the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini: purple. Or ‘Mmmmm, purple’ to put it in the company’s own terminology.

Much like Apple’s other coloured iPhone 12 models, the new purple appears not only on the phone’s rear but also on the wrap-around aluminium edge.

“The incredible iPhone 12 is the most popular smartphone in the world, and the iPhone 12 family has an over 99 percent customer satisfaction rate. The new purple finish, just in time for spring, adds another bright and fun option to the lineup, and we think customers are going to love it,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

The iPhone 12 and 12 Mini both come with Super Retina OLED displays, a dual 12Mp camera system, and Apple’s latest A14 Bionic chip – including 5G support.

The purple finish joins the existing black, white, blue, green, and red iPhone 12 and 12 Mini colours. It won’t be available for the pricier 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, which come in more muted finishes.

New iPhone accessories are on the way too, with a new MagSafe Leather Case and Leather Sleeve in Deep Violet, a Silicone Case in Capri Blue, Pistachio, Cantaloupe, or Amethyst, and a Leather Wallet in Arizona, all available to order beginning today.

The announcement was made at Apple’s spring event, where the company has also unveiled an updated Apple TV 4K alongside its new AirTag tracker – a compact Tile rival designed to help you keep track of your phone, wallet, keys, and more.

It also launched the first iMacs powered by its own M1 processors. Those iMacs also come in a range of vibrant colours, including a purple to match your new iPhone.

Like the other iPhone 12 models, the purple iPhone starts from £799/$US799, with the smaller 12 Mini available from £699/$699. Pre-orders for the purple model start this Friday, 23 April, with full availability from 30 April.
