Alleging “corruption” in Delhi government’s exercise to lift garbage, he claimed the strike-hit East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) and North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) lifted far more garbage than the staff deployed by the AAP government. It has not allocated adequate funds to the three municipal corporations. BJP are trying to manipulate the workers, they are playing politics. “Hold fresh elections”, Kejriwal, who is on a 10-day-long medical leave at Bengaluru, tweeted. In October, workers employed by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation struck work, which lasted for three days.

“We have been on a “chalk down” strike, but today the teachers of the north and east corporation schools went on a complete strike”, said Ram Niwas Solanki, general secretary of Nagar Nigam Shikshak Sangh. “Even in the emergency ward, we are treating only the critical patients”, Dr Aditya Gupta, president of the resident doctors’ association at Hindu Rao hospital, the biggest run by the MCD, said. They also added that a helpline may also be launched to facilitate the lifting of the waste. Where is the money given by Delhi government for the payment of salaries of sanitation workers?

Sisodia reiterated the charge made earlier by his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government that there was a massive “salary scam” going in three municipal bodies that make up the MCD. The MCD sanitation workers, on strike over non-payment of salaries, maintained that they will carry on with protests until their demands are met.

Their demands include regular salary, payment of arrears, regularisation of contractual employees and cashless health cards. The Delhi government and BJPruled corporations are fighting for their political gain but this could cost them dear.

It also asked the Delhi Police Commissioner to ensure there is no hindrance to lifting of garbage in coordination with the civic bodies here, in view of the indefinite strike, that began on January 27.

According to a civic official, it takes around Rs. 500 crore to pay the salaries of all the employees of the three civic bodies.
