The list of Marvel shows and films on Disney Plus is already ridiculously long, but it’s going to get substantially bigger over the next two years with all the live-action TV series on the way. One currently in development is about one of the original six Avengers – Hawkeye.
We’ve rounded up everything we know so far about this Disney Plus series – read on for more information. In the meantime, why not check out our picks of the best TV shows and movies on Disney Plus?
When does Hawkeye start on Disney Plus?
The series was originally slated for a late 2021 release date. Of course, we know that the pandemic has delayed productions across the board – so this could get pushed back.
Disney+ France listed several release dates on its website, once of which included a 2022 release for Hawkeye. This hasn’t been officially confirmed – if we hear more we’ll update this article.
Jeremy Renner has confirmed that filming has now wrapped, so the release date will likely depend on the speed of post-production:
What is the plot of Hawkeye?
The series will follow Hawkeye training his young apprentice Kate Bishop, known from the comics to eventually take over the mantle of Hawkeye. It’s highly likely that this will also be a setup for the next Avengers film.
Kate Bishop is already trained in martial arts when she meets Hawkeye, and so is a quick learner of archery under Clint’s mentorship. Like Hawkeye, she doesn’t possess any superpowers, and focuses more on street crime rather than massive outer space threats.
The inclusion of Lucky the dog in the series gives us hope that the series will be adapting the phenomenal My Life as a Weapon arc from the comics, but as of yet that’s unconfirmed.
Producer Kevin Feige also revealed at the D23 Expo that we’d see more into the life of Ronin – Clint Barton’s darker alter-ego that went on a killing spree after losing his family due to the Thanos snap. We imagine this will take place in the form of flashbacks.

Who are the cast and crew of Hawkeye?
Jeremy Renner will be reprising his role as Hawkeye from the MCU, starring as the main character.
Hailee Steinfeld has now also been confirmed to be playing Kate Bishop, after being spotted on set in costume with Jeremy Renner. You can take a look at the photos from set below:

The same thread also shows images of Lucky the Pizza Dog, a companion of Clint’s in the comics.
Other confirmed cast members include Vera Farmiga, Fra Free, and Alaqua Cox.
Florence Pugh – who will play Yelena Belova in the upcoming Black Widow – has been tipped by The Direct to make an appearance in Hawkeye. We don’t know whether she’ll be a series regular, or just making a small appearance.
This could position her as the next Black Widow – a character that worked closely with Hawkeye.
Seeing as this will be about Clint Barton’s life, we could see appearances from Linda Cardellini and Ava Russo, the actresses who played his wife Laura and daughter Lila respectively.
Behind the camera, we also know that Rhys Thomas and directing duo Bert and Bertie will each direct some episodes of the first season.
Will there be a second season of Hawkeye?
Possibly? Jeremy Renner put a caption on his Instagram Story on the last day of filming that read, “This is not a goodbye, but a see you soon”. This could imply that he’ll be back in some form for another season – even if Kate Bishop takes up the mantle.
However, this could also be Renner confirming that he’s got appearances in other MCU properties as Clint Barton. Once we know more, we’ll update this article.
