Hold onto your hats, because The Boys is coming back for another season on Amazon Prime Video.
The Spice Girls are back to fight against the despicable Homelander and the rest of The Seven, and there’s a new supe on the block – Soldier Boy.
We’ve flown around the net with our laser eyes to round up everything we know to get you prepared for season three – keep on reading to find out more.
The Boys season three release date
The Boys hasn’t yet announced an expected release date for season three. However, we can hazard a guess as to when it will be.
Jack Quaid – the actor who plays Hughie – confirmed that filming for season three of The Boys has already kicked off in a Twitter post which you can see below:

According to a production listing from the industry union website IATSE 83, filming is supposed to end in August of this year. However, with a global pandemic on, delays may end up happening if someone tests positive for COVID.
In addition, the gaps between filming and airing for previous seasons have been around nine to ten months. Taking all that into consideration, we expect to see season three of The Boys air in early 2022.
This is further supported by the release of the Seven on 7 digital series on YouTube. One of these videos will release every month. As the first released in July, the last should release in January 2022. Could this possibly coincide with the release of the main series?
Is there a trailer for season three of The Boys?
As filming is currently underway, there’s no trailer for season three of The Boys. However, there is a first look at Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy which you can see below:

There’s also a brand new digital series called Vought News Network: Seven on 7 with Cameron Coleman (via EW). The series stars Matthew Edison as anchor Cameron Coleman, who presents a “news series” that will address plot gaps from season 2, and set up points for season 3. You can watch the first episode below:
The Boys season 3 cast – who is returning?
Based on filming pictures, we know which case members will definitely be returning. They are:
Antony Starr as Homelander
Karl Urban as Billy Butcher
Jack Quaid as Hughie Cambell
Jessie T Usher as A-Train
Erin Moriarty as Annie/Starlight
Chace Crawford as The Deep
Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk
Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko
Nate Mitchell as Black Noir
Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve
Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman
Giancarlo Esposito as Stan Edgar
Tomer Kapon as Frenchie
Aya Cash – the actress for Stormfront – has not been confirmed to be back yet. Instead, The Seven will get a new member called Soldier Boy
This role will be played by Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles. Soldier Boy is a supe that’s been around since WW2, and will be brought in by Vought to help raise public morale for superheroes once again after the PR disaster of revealing Stormfront’s Nazi origins.
Eric Kripke revealed in an interview that Soldier Boy will feature “sex, violence and swearing” – so expect him to be just as diabolical as other members of The Seven.
Q: @TheBoysTV @therealKripke What can you tell us about what awaits us for soldier boy? #AskTheBoys- @tommogress

There are even more supes joining the fray this season. The Wrap reported that Sean Patrick Flanery, Miles Gaston Villanueva and Nick Wechsler have been cast as Gunpowder, Blue Hawk and Supersonic. Gunpowder is inspired by Judge Dredd, and has the ability to create and control firearms.
The other two characters are brand new for the series, so we don’t know what powers they have. The name ‘Hawk’ possibly means flight powers, and Supersonic could be something to do with sonic waves.
Katia Winter will be playing Little Nina, a Russian mob boss who worked with Vought to experiment with Compound V.
Matthew Edison is also joining the season 3 cast as VNN anchor, Cameron Coleman. The actor already has a reoccurring role in a short digital series, also produced by Amazon.
What is the plot for the next season?
Spoiler warning for season 2 of The Boys. If you’re not all caught up on the plot, don’t scroll any further.
Season two of The Boys was explosive, to say the least. The next big bad of The Seven – Stormfront – was left literally in pieces after Ryan (Becca and Homelander’s son) used his superpowers on her to try and protect his family.
Sadly in the process, Becca (Butcher’s wife) was caught in the crossfire. Fortunately, Butcher stepped in and took Ryan away into protected custody, out of the clutches of Stand Edgar, Homelander and Vought.
However, its important to note that Stormfront is not dead, and may still be being hidden somewhere. We’ve definitely not seen the last of her.
Her replacement, Solider Boy, looks to be just as bad in other ways. He will be the embodiment of patriotism, but there’s something darker lying under the surface. We can somehow see Homelander clashing with this newcomer, just as he did with Stormfront initially.
Showrunner Eric Kripke has confirmed that will be an episode based around the short comic series, Herogasm. As the name suggests, this is a sex-crazed event in which the supes let down their hair and embrace debauchery, all hosted privately by Vought. Kripke states that if the full version aired, it “for sure would be rated X”, so we’re in for some shocking stuff (via The Wrap).
Meanwhile, it was revealed that politician Victoria Neuman was the secret supe who’d be been blowing people’s heads up all over the show. It appears she’s after ultimate power – but where do her loyalties lie, considering she was so outspoken against Vought and seems to be working with Hughie?
A-Train is back in The Seven (as is Starlight), but The Deep missed out once again. Showrunner Kripke revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that The Deep now has a vendetta against The Church of the Collective, and will be spending most of season three plotting his revenge.
Hughie and Starlight are also back together – but with The Seven now more dangerous than ever considering that Homelander knows half the team is against him, we imagine problems will stir in the relationship.
We still don’t know the origins and mystery surrounding Black Noir. We won’t reveal the big spoiler for the comics, but we wonder if the show will take the same direction, or completely deviate. We may find out more in season three.
VFX supervisor on the show, Stephan Fleet, has told The Wrap that the visual effects this season will be bigger than ever before. Keep in mind that there was a giant whale carcass in season 2 – so we’re wondering what could possibly top that.

Will there be a season four of The Boys?
Amazon hasn’t yet confirmed the renewal of The Boys for season four – if it is we imagine we’ll find out closer to the release of season three.
There is however a spin-off of the series in the works (via The Hollywood Reporter), which will be set in the college for superheroes, run by the one and only Vought International. The series is described as a crossover between a college sitcom and The Hunger Games – so expect the usual gore and shocking twists.
